Carbon dioxide levels also record a big jump in 2021
“Meanwhile, levels of carbon dioxide also continue to increase at historically high rates. The global surface average for carbon dioxide during 2021 was 414.7 parts per million (ppm), which is an increase of 2.66 ppm over the 2020 average. This marks the 10th consecutive year that carbon dioxide increased by more than 2 parts per million, which represents the fastest sustained rate of increase in the 63 years since monitoring began.” https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/increase-in-atmospheric-methane-set-another-record-during-2021
“Observations sustained over many decades, by NOAA and others, show that the rate of carbon dioxide increase has tracked global emissions. Despite international pledges to reduce emissions, climate scientists have seen no measurable progress in reducing greenhouse gas pollution.”

Technological Innovation
Mar 8th
“What could be the role of technology in the unfolding of the Great Transition? The development of technology as it happens today is not contributing to such a shift toward equitable well-being within a healthy biosphere. Some aspects of technological innovation, however, could be repurposed to advance a Great Transition, and the attempts to do so deserve all our attention and support.”

England’s Covid unlocking is threat to world, say 1,200 scientists
International experts say ‘unethical experiment’ could allow vaccine-resistant variants to develop
16 July, 2021
Sky: Vaccine-resistant may well develop whether we “allow” or “not allow”. However, precautions may affect the probability, frequency and thus the amount of suffering this total unlocking will bring on..
“Prof Christina Pagel, the director of University College London’s clinical operational research unit, told the meeting: ‘Because of our position as a global travel hub, any variant that becomes dominant in the UK will likely spread to the rest of the globe. The UK policy doesn’t just affect us. It affects everybody and everybody has a stake in what we do.’”
“’The world is watching the current avoidable crisis unfold in the UK,’ said Dr Deepti Gurdasani, a clinical epidemiologist and senior lecturer at Queen Mary University of London, who is taking part in Friday’s summit.
She added on Twitter: “
‘Let’s be under no illusions – we are in a country where our government is taking steps to maximally expose our young to a virus that causes chronic illness in many. Our govt is ending all protections for our children including isolation of contacts of cases in schools & bubbles.’”
“The concerns expressed in other countries comes after Prof Chris Whitty, the chief medical officer for England, warned on Thursday that the number of people in hospital with Covid-19 could reach “quite scary” levels within weeks, as cases soared caused by the more contagious Delta variant and the lifting of lockdown restrictions.
Whitty said in a webinar late on Thursday, hosted by the Science Museum, that hospital admissions were doubling about every three weeks, and that the current low numbers of Covid admissions could rise to serious levels in the next couple of months.”
Vote vote vote

Whatever you do, do vote. Remember, that what counts is the number of ballots counted that contain what you favor, not what you think.
Failing to vote because you don’t like your party candidate just makes each vote for them more effective.

Insanity
James Phillips, doctor of emergency medicine at George Washington University, who is an attending physician at Walter Reed, called the stunt “insanity”.
“Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary Presidential ‘drive-by’ just now has to be quarantined for 14 days. They might get sick. They may die,” he wrote in a tweet.

Trump and Melania tested positive for the coronavirus months after playing down the pandemic that has killed more than 205,000 Americans and sickened millions more. Trump reportedly has a low-grade fever, nasal congestion, and a cough. He received an infusion of an experimental antibody cocktail and was taken to Walter Reed Medical Center Friday afternoon by helicopter after his condition worsened. He will remain at Walter Reed for a few days. Earlier in the day, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told reporters that Trump had “mild symptoms.” Late Thursday night, Trump tweeted: “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!“ Trump, 74, was diagnosed hours after one of his closest advisers, Hope Hicks, tested positive Thursday morning. Hicks traveled with Trump on Air Force One and Marine One this week to the presidential debate in Cleveland on Tuesday and to a campaign rally in Minnesota on Wednesday. After the White House learned of Hicks’ symptoms, Trump flew to New Jersey for a fundraiser anyway, delivered a speech, and was in close contact with dozens of other people, including campaign supporters at a roundtable event. At a political dinner Thursday night, Trump told guests that “the end of the pandemic is in sight.” While he did not appear ill at the time, he did not speak to reporters when he returned to the White House. The president’s physician, meanwhile, said Trump was “well.” Hicks is showing symptoms. Three days ago, at the presidential debate, Trump mocked Biden for wearing a mask every time he appeared in public. “I put a mask on when I think I need it,” Trump said. “Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from it. And he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen.” The Trump campaign announced that all of Trump’s planned events are being postponed or going virtual. Trump also canceled his plans to travel to a rally in Florida. There are 32 days before the election on Nov. 3. Less we forget the western US fires

“In their highest boughs the world rustles,
their roots rest in infinity;
but they do not lose themselves there,
they struggle with all the force of their lives for one thing only:
to fulfill themselves according to their own laws…
to represent themselves. Nothing is holier,
nothing is more exemplary than a beautiful, strong tree.”

Why No Masks?
Sep 28th
Doug Mills/The New York Times
Why no masks? Disgraceful. Where will these people go and who will they possibly infect when they leave that room?
Why oh why must they possibly endanger the public over a simple protective procedure?
The answer to this question is obvious to me, what about you?
